Sunday at Download was louder than ever
It’s very difficult to sum up all of the crazy shee-yat that went down on the final day at Download 2011, but let’s give a go…
Yes, it was raining. You know that already. Who cares though?! In our opinion, rock sounds even better when you’re soaked through, and judging by the swarm of people gathered around to see the likes of Biohazard, Madina Lake and Bowling For Soup early in the day, no way was a little bit of rain gonna stop the rock for them.
The press tent was packed with rock stars on Sunday, and we wiggled our way through the crowds to chat to as many of them as we could – we even managed to sneak into Rob Zombie’s dressing room and grab a few words with guitarist John 5. Read it here.
Backstage, no one could take their eyes of GWAR front man Oderus Urungus, who was proudly parading around letting everything hang out. Watch our chat with him below.
Back in the Arena, bands including The Gaslight Anthem, Turisas and Buckcherry were keeping everyone rocking hard, and a very scantily clad Taylor Momsen raised a few eyebrows when her band The Pretty Reckless stormed the Main Stage.

By about 7pm, the rain had well and truly pissed off, which meant clear skies for our stage headliners.
Rob Zombie put on a gripping set on the Second Stage, bringing all the toys from his live performances to put on what was set to be “one of the biggest Zombie shows ever”.
With huge statues bounding around the stage, a ridiculous amount of props and more pyros than a V for Vendetta fireworks party, Rob and the band returned to Donington in true style.

With Bullet For My Valentine closing their Main Stage set, Download fans found a new celebrity in Steward 836 (if you don’t know, then don’t ask), and finally the stage was set for what would be our closing act of Download 2011: Linkin Park.
The band put on a veritable greatest hits set, that was jam-packed with massive anthems including and What I’ve Done and Breaking the Habit.
Chester was on top form, screaming louder than ever and leaping in to the crowd - not only was it the most accomplished Linkin set we’ve ever seen, it was also the perfect end to a phenomenal festival.
