Download 2012 to be the only Black Sabbath European performance of the summer

Download 2012 to be the only Black Sabbath European performance of the summer

Last year, the internet went up in flames with the news that the original Back Sabbath line up were back together and due to head out on a huge European tour in 2012 - with a headline slot at Download Festival being the highlight on the schedule.

All of that was thrown in to doubt recently, with the terrible news that the band’s axeman Tony Iommi was suffering with lymphoma.

The good news is that Tony is SLAYING that fiendish disease like a BOSS, and his recovery looking incredibly promising.

However, at this stage in time Download will be the band’s only European show of the summer, with Tony under doctors’ orders to stay put in the UK (Donington is only about 30 miles from Tony’s house).

Ozzy will continue to play all scheduled dates on the previously announced tour, billed as Ozzy and Friends and featuring Geezer Butler as “special guest” and the likes of Zakk Wylde and Slash joining the incomparable front man at various stages of the tour.

Whilst everyone in the rock community continues to wish Tony well, it’s comforting to know that he’s getting better, and his return to the stage with the rest of Black Sabbath at Download on June 10th is looking set to be a monumental occasion.

The only question that remains for Sabbath fans now is: “what about Bill Ward?”. More news on that as it breaks.
